Liverpool Eye €75M-Rated Barcelona Defender to Replace PSG-Linked Defender

Paris Saint-Germain have made a clear shift toward signing younger, up-and-coming players in recent windows. But both Luis Enrique and Luis Campos know that experience still matters—as long as it fits the team’s identity and style.
One position they could look to reinforce is the backline. Milan Skriniar is expected to make a permanent move to Fenerbahce this summer, which would open up a spot in defense.
Instead of going after another big-money star, PSG might explore a short-term option with a player who already brings proven quality. Virgil van Dijk’s contract is winding down, and reports suggest the club is keeping tabs on the Liverpool captain.
According to Anfield Watch, PSG are preparing a two-year offer worth €80 million, with an option for a third season. A hefty signing bonus could bring the total package to around €100 million.

Relevo is reporting that Liverpool are showing interest in Barcelona center-back Ronald Araujo, even though he signed a new deal through 2031 just a few months ago in January. The timing is notable, as Virgil van Dijk is entering the final stretch of his contract with the Reds.
The report also mentions Araujo’s current release clause is active until July 15. Moreover, the Uruguayan could be available for around €65 million (£55.3 million) or €75 million (£63.8 million) before that date. After mid-July, though, that figure reportedly jumps significantly (h/t GOAL).
David Ornstein of The Athletic previously shared that those close to the situation are playing down the likelihood of Virgil van Dijk joining Paris Saint-Germain, with Liverpool remaining confident he’ll agree to a contract extension.
More recently, ESPN’s Julien Laurens backed that up, saying that while the Liverpool captain did speak briefly with PSG’s sporting advisor after their second-leg clash, there’s no real progress on a deal at this stage.
