Liverpool lost their first away game of the Premier League campaign away to Fulham after having initially taken the lead.
Alexis Mac Allister opened the scoring with a superb effort. The Argentinian won the ball in midfield before driving forward and thundering a shot at Bernd Leno.
Just under 10 minutes later, Fulham pulled one back. Ryan Sessegnon was making his first start at Craven Cottage since his return to the club and celebrated it by firing in a loose ball from close range.
Liverpool's poor defending was punished by the Cottagers. Andy Robertson was guilty of a careless sideways pass across the edge of his area that Alex Iwobi pounced on. The visitors had opportunities to win the ball back but when they didn't it was the Fulham man who sent his shot into the roof of the net.
Rodrigo Muniz made it 3-1 in the 37th minute when he was stronger than Virgil van Dijk to get to a hooked ball forward by Iwobi. The Brazilian then did brilliantly well to keep his composure and finish his effort past Caoimhin Kelleher.
The Reds improved in the second half and looked more like a team that is still likely to win the Premier League this season.
The deficit was reduced to just one in the 72nd minute when Luis Díaz slotted his effort past Leno. There was some controversy in it as just seconds earlier Van Dijk had gotten away with what appeared to be an elbow aimed at Sander Berge that remained unpunished.
Marco Silva's side were eventually able to hold on and secure all three points for a strong performance. Liverpool meanwhile remain 11 points clear of Arsenal – a gap that should be comfortable enough.
