PSG sold Xavi Simons to RB Leipzig earlier this year, and the move has since sparked strong interest from Liverpool, Manchester United, and Manchester City. The deal reportedly included a sell-on clause, which could see PSG benefit financially again if Leipzig decides to sell him in the future.

Fabrizio Romano recently reported that Leipzig paid €80 million in total—€55 million of it upfront—with Simons signing a contract that runs until June 2027. However, there’s no guarantee he’ll stay in Germany that long.

As the summer transfer window approaches, talk around Simons’ next move is picking up. According to a previous report from CaughtOffside, Manchester United may be leading the race ahead of Manchester City to sign the Dutch midfielder.

On the latest Ensemble PSG Podcast, Robin Bairner,  the chief editor at Football Transfers, revealed that the Premier League appears to be the only destination for Simons, especially if Leipzig don’t budge from their reported €80 million asking price.

“You can only look at the Premier League at the moment for Xavi Simons,” Bairner said. “Like you say, it’s just such a wild career this kid’s had because he is obviously so fantastically talented. He’s probably too confident. He has too much belief in his ability. Apparently, it’s an attitude thing rather than anything else. It’s driven him out of PSG, which is so disappointing. But ultimately, that’s on him.

“If he isn’t willing to fit into the ethic of the squad, then so be it, I suppose. But I think his talent is going to take him to the Premier League. There are so many clubs here that are desperate for attacking talent. Manchester United, for example, if they can get into the Champions League. Arsenal—they don’t know their attacking midfielder.

“But I think there have to be questions over his attitude and how he can fit into these teams, how he copes if he is not a starter at these clubs. It’s going to be fascinating to see because, equally, these clubs have got the Premier League’s financial fair play PSR to contend with, and that’s curtailing them in the transfer market to some extent.”

Empire of the Kop recently reported that Liverpool are preparing an opening bid of around €60 million ($67.8 million) for the Netherlands international playmaker, as Arne Slot aims to boost his attack for next season.

However, despite Slot’s desire to make this player his first summer signing, the offer will likely fall short. RB Leipzig are reportedly holding out for closer to €80 million ($90.4 million).
