Paris Saint-Germain head into their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 game with confidence, and rightly so. PSG are unbeaten domestically this season. As well as being in the quarter-finals of the Coupe de France, they are running away with the Ligue 1 title and are currently 13 points ahead of second-place Olympique de Marseille.
Their European form had been an outlier for much of the season but that too has picked up since the turn of the calendar year. Wins against Manchester City and VfB Stuttgart secured their progression to the play-offs before they demolished Stade Brestois 10-0 on aggregate.
PSG have drawn Liverpool in the next round of the Champions League. And whilst the Premier League giants currently sit pretty at the top of the league, Les Parisiens shouldn’t have any inferiority complex, according to their manager, Luis Enrique. The Spaniard sees the two sides evenly matched.
“I am delighted [to have drawn Liverpool]. When you look at the two teams, they are both of a very high level. It will be an attractive match. It will be interesting. When you look at the two teams, we are similar teams in terms of our desire to attack. It will be a two-legged tie against two quite equal teams, even if we’re both very different. We don’t attack in the same way. Liverpool are playing at a very high level. It will be close; it is 50-50,” said the PSG manager.
