Exeter City have accepted a £1.5m bid from Luton Town for striker Millenic Alli.
Luton Town have had a £1.5m transfer bid for Exeter City star Millenic Alli accepted by the League One outfit.
This new report comes in light of Wycombe Wanderers being unwilling to sell star striker Richard Kone to the Hatters, which was exclusively revealed by Football League World. It seems that was the straw that broke the camel's back in that saga, which has seen Matt Bloomfield turn his attention elsewhere.
That interest remains in League One though, as journalist Pete O'Rourke revealed today via his X account that Luton have had a £1.5m bid accepted by Exeter for their top goalscorer.
The Dublin-born forward has been a bright spark in what has been a pretty underwhelming season for the Grecians.
The 24-year-old scored twice on Tuesday evening as Gary Caldwell's side were embarrassed in their own home at the hands of high-flying Leyton Orient, losing 6-2 on what was a painful night for the Devon club. Having lost key loan defender Tristan Crama already, things look like they're about to get a lot worse for Exeter.
As mentioned, Luton have been in hot pursuit of Kone even before the transfer window opened at the start of the month, which was also revealed first by Football League World.
However, Wycombe have knocked back three bids for their Ivorian star, who is currently top scorer in League One.
It seems that the Hatters may have given up on their target, as a reunion between Bloomfield and Kone at Kenilworth Road this month is growing less-and-less-likely with each passing day. Now, the latest report by O'Rourke suggests Luton have turned their attention to Exeter ace Alli.
The forward moved to St James Park in January 2024 from FC Halifax Town, having been touted as one of non-league's hottest talents.
He's certainly lived up to that assessment of his abilities, becoming a key player for Caldwell's side. Since his arrival, Alli has played 43 matches for the Grecians, scoring 14 goals - 10 of which have come this season.
This electric form has seen Luton reportedly table a £1.5m offer for the 24-year-old, which has been accepted, as they look to add to their attacking arsenal. It seems that the City hotshot was always in mind for the Hatters, given the quick nature of the bid for Alli after the latest Kone rejection.
It's unknown whether Bloomfield's side will make a fourth bid for Kone, but the move for Alli suggests that maybe Luton have decided to look elsewhere for a new forward.
Town made two important additions on Tuesday, with Kal Naismith returning to Kenilworth Road, along with Wigan Athletic's Thelo Aasgaard arriving for a reported fee of £3m. With two strong additions in the door already, Gary Sweet is keen to get his club out of their current predicament in the relegation zone, with his 'aggressive' transfer approach.
The latest bid for the Exeter forward is another example of Sweet not messing around in the transfer market. This season so far has been disastrous for the former Premier League club, as they languish in the relegation zone, and there is a real threat of back-to-back relegations.
The addition of Alli could certainly be a shrewd piece of business by the Bedfordshire outfit. Carlton Morris and Elijah Adebayo have been poor in front of goal this season, and they need someone hungry who will provide competition and push them to be better.
The 24-year-old has proven to be a real threat during his time in Devon. He's someone who is capable of conjuring a moment of magic to earn his side valuable points, which is what Luton need in their current situation.
