Man United could bring ‘sensational’ midfielder back to EPL; He would be an upgrade on Casemiro | OneFootball

Manchester United will reportedly be presented with the opportunity to sign struggling Bayern Munich midfielder João Palhinha.

The 29-year-old is a youth product of Sporting CP who had the chance to develop his game under Ruben Amorim for two years before earning a move to Fulham who spent £17 million to secure the services of the Portugal international.

During his time at Craven Cottage, Palhinha cemented himself as one of the best holding midfielders in the Premier League. This prompted Bayern Munich to splash €51 million to lure him to the Allianz Arena last summer.

However, the Lisbon native has been struggling for space at Vincent Kompany’s court. He has only made 21 appearances thus far this season, with the majority coming off the bench.

Therefore, CaughtOffside expects the midfielder to head back to the Premier League next season, as his agent will be looking to offer him to some of the biggest clubs in the country as the player looks to end his German ordeal.

The source believes Man United, Arsenal and Liverpool could emerge as possible destinations, as some of them had already pursued Palhinha during his time at Fulham, when his exploits earned him praise of the highest order from Rio Ferdinand.

“He’s been absolutely sensational this season. You need someone like that in front of you as a defender,” beamed the Man Utd legend in April 2023.

The source also notes that Palhinha would be an easy upgrade on Casemiro who has been enduring a steep decline in recent years, although his recent form has slightly improved compared to his horrific displays at the start of the season.

Nevertheless, getting rid of the Brazilian won’t be easy, as they’ll need to find him a suitor willing to cover his £350,000 per week salary.

On the other hand, Christian Erkisen has all but confirmed his departure, as his contract will expire at the end of the season, and the club doesn’t have any intention to offer him a renewal.

Hence, Palhinha could be a replacement for the experienced Dane, albeit with different characteristics.
