Man United Starting XI vs West Ham United: Confirmed Team News and Predicted Lineup

Manchester United’s march to the Europa League final might have stirred dreams of silverware, but Ruben Amorim’s focus remains firmly trained on the Premier League, starting with Sunday’s clash against West Ham. With the domestic stage still critical to United’s season narrative, Amorim has hinted that his key players will return to action against Graham Potter’s Hammers.

Captain Bruno Fernandes, Harry Maguire, and Casemiro were all benched during the 4-3 defeat at Brentford, a game that delivered drama but little in the way of control. Only Maguire made it onto the pitch. But despite reaching the European final, Amorim sees the value in rhythm and sharpness over rest.
“They will play because sometimes it’s better to play,” Amorim said. “What I will protect is the players that can get an injury. For example, Bruno, or the last game before Tottenham, but we moved the game to Friday, Chelsea, so we will have time to recover. Bruno doesn’t have the problem of (knocks table) any injury, but Harry has so we will have to manage that. But they have to play and it’s better to play than to stay out.”
That clarity of thought – a belief that the pitch, not the bench, is the best place for preparation – means Fernandes, Maguire and Casemiro are all in line for selection. It also opens the door for Christian Eriksen and Amad Diallo to stake their claim.
Matthijs de Ligt remains unavailable, meaning Amorim must again reshape his defensive unit. Tyler Fredricson, trusted on the right of a back three against Brentford, could retain his spot. Chido Obi, now available after missing out on Europa League duty, returns to the squad, though playing him in consecutive top-flight fixtures may be a stretch.
Toby Collyer (leg) and Ayden Heaven (ankle) are being monitored, but the injury list continues to bite. Lisandro Martinez (knee), Joshua Zirkzee (thigh) and Diogo Dalot (calf) remain sidelined – absentees who underline the fragility of United’s squad depth.
West Ham’s visit isn’t just another fixture. It’s a test of mentality for a United side trying to juggle the expectation of a European final with the demand of consistency in the Premier League. Graham Potter’s team, fresh from confirming the exit of four senior players, may view Old Trafford as fertile ground for a statement result.
