Manchester United have reportedly reached an agreement with Sporting CP for their bomber Viktor Gyokeres.

The Red Devils are in dire need of attacking reinforcement as their current options, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, haven’t been consistent in front of goal. However, the management failed to address this area of the pitch in January, as the club’s attempts to sign Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich proved futile, with the French teenager eventually joining Tottenham.

Nevertheless, Man United fans have been promised an exciting summer, and the first order of business is to find a genuine goal threat. While several profiles continue to be linked with a move to Old Trafford, Man Utd head coach Ruben Amorim is still dreaming of a reunion with his Sporting CP pupil Viktor Gyokeres.

The Sweden international has now established himself as one of the most proficient strikers in the world. This season, he has already netted 34 goals in as many appearances. His overall tally since joining the Lisbon-based giants from Coventry is 77 goals and 22 assists from 84 appearances.

According to Fichajes.net, United have already found an agreement in principle with Sporting for Gyokeres. While the player has a release clause of €100 million, the Portuguese giants are willing to settle for €70 million, considering it a fair amount.

While this report perhaps should be taken with a pinch of salt, the Red Devils’ pursuit of the Sweden international is no longer a secret. The Premier League giants will likely face steep competition from all over Europe, as a free-scoring bomber is a rare commodity in the current day and age.

Nevertheless, United will be hoping that Amorim’s connection with the player would give them the decisive edge.
