Pep Guardiola and Manchester City have confirmed a 19-man travelling squad to make the trip to Slovakia this week on matchday two of the Champions League.
The reigning Premier League champions will not only be hoping to return to winning ways across all competitions following three draws in their last four matches, but also get their first points on the board in the new format of Europe’s premier club competition.
It was a hotly-contested 0-0 draw that was played out on matchday one of the league phase, as Manchester City failed to break the deadlock against their 2023 final opponents Inter Milan at the Etihad Stadium.
At the weekend, similar struggles in front of goal were showcased against Newcastle United, with Josko Gvardiol being the only goalscorer for the Blues at St James’ Park, as his goal was cancelled out by a second-half penalty from Anthony Gordon.
The trip to Slovakia is once again the first of a two-game week for Pep Guardiola and his players, as they will return from the continent for a brief break before preparing for Premier League action against Fulham at the Etihad Stadium.
Before then, Manchester City have confirmed a 19-man travelling squad that left Manchester Airport on Monday afternoon for Bratislava!
Goalkeepers: Ederson, Stefan Ortega Moreno, Scott Carson.
Defenders: Rico Lewis, Kyle Walker, Manuel Akanji, Ruben Dias, John Stones, Josko Gvardiol.
Midfielders: Ilkay Gundogan, Matheus Nunes, Mateo Kovacic, Bernardo Silva, James McAtee, Phil Foden.
Forwards: Savinho, Erling Haaland, Jack Grealish, Jeremy Doku.
It is the same list of notable first-team absentees that played no part in the weekend’s trip to the north-east for Manchester City, as all of Nathan Ake, Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, and Oscar Bobb remain sidelined through their respective injury problems.
Erling Haaland has made the travelling squad despite his knocks picked up against Newcastle on Saturday lunchtime, with TV broadcasters spotting a tear in his sock around his achilles that also issued a cut to the Norwegian during a heavy challenge.
On the youth front, Pep Guardiola has opted to select none of the Academy starlets granted the opportunity to train on Monday for Manchester City’s trip to Slovakia, including the likes of Will Dickson and Jaden Heskey.
