Manchester City fans have been talking ahead of this Newcastle United match.
A 3pm Saturday afternoon kick-off at the Etihad.
Eddie Howe and Newcastle United have had a full week to rest and prepare after the 3-2 win at Birmingham.
Whilst Manchester City followed up their 2-1 struggle against Leyton Orient, with a very fortunate 2-1 lead against Real Madrid in midweek, only to throw that away with two late goals for the visitors which were assisted by some poor defending.
Manchester City fans commenting via their Blue Moon message board ahead of facing Newcastle United on Saturday:
‘Hardest working team in the league against one of the most knackered. They’re favourites for this one in my opinion.
We’ll have to make changes but god knows what our XI will be. They have a very good midfield and a dangerous front line.’
‘Forget the second leg. It’s irrelevant now, full focus on the league.’
‘Best not play a weakened team.’
‘Was looking forward to this when we were 2 1 up tonight thinking the boys will be full of confidence. Now Newcastle will be licking their lips at playing us and pressing us into mistakes. Let’s see who is fit for weekend and try and get a win and push up in the league.’
‘Think we will struggle unfortunately because we will be tired and they are strong in midfield.’
‘i don’t even think we are worth to be top 4 after seeing our perfomance
It’s almost like our players don’t believe they can win anything.’
‘Nightmare game to try and pick ourselves up in. Can only see an in form Newcastle giving us the runaround.’
‘Their midfield is going to destroy us. Especially if Joelinton is back with Bruno G and Tonalli.
Don’t even know how to approach this.
Definitely not a high line. Anthony will skin whoever is on the left.’
‘Let’s get tonight out of our system good and proper by giving the barcodes a good old fashioned tonking.’
‘This might not be pretty either – we absolutely MUST not lose though.
I’m struggling with a lineup as Pep’s head seems to have gone currently.’
‘Up there as one of the worst teams we could be facing next.’
‘Been saying for weeks now, lucky be top half, especially with this run of games.’
‘These love to dish out dirt. So we need not to react.’
‘No faith in this team or tactics. If Newcastle play rubbish we have a chance, they turn up and want 3 points they will take them.’
‘Newcastle are on somewhat shaky form at least and we weren’t all that awful today. Hopefully the game on Saturday being a 6 pointer with a top 4 competitor gets our boys up for it.’
‘It’s clear we’re all in agreement on not starting Kev. He’s bringing very little to the team and his corners have always been woeful. Absolute Legend but it’s time to move on Kev.’
‘Newcastle are well-rested and on an upswing in form. First time in my life I will have them as favorites over City.’
‘They weren’t even favourites in the 1955 Cup Final and they still won.
Sod you, Jackie Milburn.’
‘Why is the CL second leg irrelevant? We were only beaten by two lapses in concentration.
Thankfully we have professionals who will always believe in themselves.’
‘Fair play for remaining positive, but let’s not forget that Ederson made arguably 4 or 5 very good saves to keep the score down, whilst I don’t really recall Courtois having too much to do other than the Foden shot.
We were beaten by a better side and I expect the same in the 2nd leg.’
‘I feared for this one more than the Madrid game.
Newcastle play in a way that is so unsuited to us.’
‘I see Villa as our biggest threat for top 4. If they stay in the CL for longer it will help, but they’ve got the squad to best compete for the top 4 in my opinion. Chelsea and Newcastle are inconsistent and I still think Forest will be dragged back into things. I’d take a point in this one considering 5th is likely to be good enough for the CL anyway. Keeps us above Newcastle at least. 3pts would be a huge boost for the players though.’
‘Madrids midfield wasn’t great but I can’t imagine what Newcastle will do to us if we play like we did that second half. Especially with Isak Gordon in form and their immense physicality in the middle of the park.’
‘Have to hope our fragile players will be able to play another game Saturday and next Wednesday.
No room for sentiment now, we all know that but Pep’s forgotten it.’
‘You have to hope Newcastle’s injury list stays as big as it is for just a few more days. Gordon and Joelinton in particular will be huge misses for them.’
‘Unfortunately Gordon is fit and cleared to play on Saturday.’
‘Can only see a hammering here. They play with real intensity. All their players can run all day long and through brick walls.
Midfield will get absolutely bullied by Joelinton, Bruno and Tonali. And if Rico starts, Gordon will think Christmas has come early!!!
Pack the defence and midfield and play on the break is our best chance.’
‘Small consolation that its on Saturday at 3pm so I’ve no means of having to watch it, or it being beamed live to the world again on a Super Sunday showing how bad we are yet again.
Small comforts.’
‘Newcastle are 5/2 to beat us which just seems crazy to me given our current state.’
‘Madrid were higher odds last night to win…’
‘Joelinton is out injured.’
‘That’s very good news if true. He has consistently taken the game to us and his aggression is hard for us to counter, especially minus Rodri.’
‘Keep cool.
Newcastle isn’t Madrid.
We did beat Chelsea and Forest at home, we can beat Newcastle.’
‘Unfortunately for us Newcastle are bang in form at the moment. Pity we didn’t play them closer to the Wembley final.’
‘You can be sure that Isaak won’t still be on the pitch after 80 minutes. More likely Murphy or Gordon to score late on.’
‘Not so sure on Isak. He only came on for 60 seconds in the cup so he’s essentially had 10 days rest following the Arsenal semi final.
Think he’ll last the full game to be honest, although Wilson is “fit” again so more cover available now if needed.’
‘Could be really brutal. We’ll get dominated in midfield, they will press us into dozens of turnovers deep in our own half, they will hit us quickly and they’ll comfortably defend our walking pace “attack”
No confidence in pep to change things anymore.’
‘I thought Arsenal bullied us a bit at their place. After watching both legs of the LC semi final, I thought Newcastle bullied Arsenal in both games, they are about as physical a team as you get nowadays.’
‘Fear they are too quick too physical and too much in form and they have had a rest. Could be messy.’
‘Very tough game but doesn’t warrant the level of negativity from some in my opinion. Newcastle won’t be expecting to come and roll us over as easily as it sounds from some of the comments.’
‘Am having panic attacks thinking about the team Pep might pick and the likelihood that Rico Lewis is up against Anthony Gordon and Isaak peeling off to his side.’
‘Crikey, Newcastle …. a few years ago they could hardly buy a win against us, and now look at them … probably coming to the Etihad fully expecting to win!
They have a bit of pace too, so that won’t suit our error riddled defence, however i think we might just manage a draw.’
‘Two teams probably at the same level at this moment in time. See a score draw.’
‘Would much rather we concentrate on beating Newcastle rather than worrying about next week. After all, we could play at our very best and still not beat Real Madrid.’
‘This thread is depressing when did we turn into Bradford City? When did Newcastle turn into prime barca? I actually think we win this game comfortably even with heavy rotation. Our forward players should have way to much for their light defence. Also negative howe won’t be letting the handbrake off against us he never does.’
‘Goals galore I reckon. I quite enjoy watching Newcastle play this season. Not looking forward to seeing them play against us mind.’
‘Looking forward to this more than the Madrid game.
Always a good atmosphere against Newcastle. 3pm, Saturday afternoon, going to be a cool cloudy day (ideal footy weather), payday, beers flowing, football between two teams vying for CL places…
Can’t wait!’
‘Honestly going into every game expecting a capitulation and it’s not going to end any time soon as we can’t keep the ball well enough.’
