While there is obvious need for a player to come in and replace Kevin De Bruyne in the heart of Manchester City’s creative midfield set-up, the club are likely to be open to strengthening all areas of Pep Guardiola’s squad depending on market opportunities.

Despite the addition of Omar Marmoush to the forward line in January, and the success seen through the Egyptian’s arrival, the forward line could also see further change with lingering doubts over the futures of Jack Grealish and Bernardo Silva in particular.

And that belief leads us on to the emergence of a relatively new name concerning Manchester City, but certainly not a player unknown in the European scene given big performances for both club and country in recent seasons.

According to a new report from MailSport covering the situation of the Dutchman heading towards the summer market, it is claimed that Manchester City are among the clubs watching exciting 21-year-old forward, Xavi Simons.

Bayern Munich accompany the Etihad Stadium’s official in that strategy, while it is also claimed that Liverpool have watched the performances of RB Leipzig ‘consistently’ throughout the season.

As for Manchester United, the Dutchman is a target for Old Trafford too with the club having maintained contact over the Bundesliga wonder-kid, and his talents being one of several options due to be assessed ahead of the summer.

Manchester City may feel as though Xavi Simons’ versatility across midfield and into attacking areas of the pitch makes him an ideal candidate to join their first-team squad, particularly as they look at add youth and energy into the roster this summer.

There is also a primary opportunity for his current club to make a remarkable profit in such a short space of time this summer, given how many of Europe’s leading clubs are watching his performances with interest.

RB Leipzig only signed Simons on a permanent deal at the end of the last January transfer window from Paris Saint-Germain, in a deal understood to be worth €50 million plus a further €31 million in potential bonuses.
