Lazio are reportedly working on securing a deal with Manchester City for their young prospect Claudio Echeverri.

The 19-year-old emerged as one of the hottest talents in Argentinian football over the past few years as he climbed the ranks at River Plate to become a member of the first team. The Cityzens were the quickest to react, securing the teenager’s services for around £15 million in January 2024, but kept him on loan with the Buenos Aires-based giants for another year.

Echeverri joined Pep Guardiola’s squad at the start of the new year, but has yet to make an appearance. So, according to Il Corriere della Sera (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the Biancocelesti are looking to seize the opportunity and try to strike an agreement with the Premier League giants, potentially for a loan move.

The source adds that the Argentina U20 starlet was spotted at a restaurant near Lazio’s training center at Formello this week, which is hardly a coincidence. So it remains to be seen if the Italian capital side will manage to lure the talented youngster to Rome; and in such a case, whether he’ll be able to gain a role with the first team or instead join the Primavera ranks.

Position & Further Details on Potential Lazio Move

Echeverri is originally an attacking midfielder but can also play on either wing. In this regard, he is somewhat similar to Arijon Ibrahimovic, who joined Marco Baroni’s team in January on loan from Bayern Munich, but is still struggling to carve himself enough space in the first team.
