Manchester City completed the signing of Egyptian international Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt during the January transfer window. Since he has arrived at the club we have seen flashes of what Marmoush is capable of. He does appear to have quickly settled into Pep Guardiola’s squad. Although we have seen glimpses of Marmoush’s undoubted quality it is clear to see that there is plenty of room for the Egyptian international to grow as a Manchester City player.

Typically we have seen with players signed during the January transfer window they are expected to hit the ground running when they arrive at a new club. However, that isn’t a simple task to complete based on when and how a player arrives at a new club mid-season. That’s what we have seen with Omar Marmoush. At times we have seen him at his best. His hat trick against Newcastle is a prime example of this. In other games, namely City’s defeats to Arsenal and Real Madrid he was on the periphery of those two games. But that was more down to Manchester City’s performances in those two games rather than anything Marmoush did wrong with his performance.

But the signs are there that Omar Marmoush will develop into a key player for Pep Guardiola’s side. The Egyptian international looks to be at his best playing on the left and drifting centrally. Marmoush also looks like he is forming a partnership with Erling Haaland. The more they play together the more you think that the partnership between the two will develop. You add Jeremy Doku and Savinho to the equation and you do feel that Omar Marmoush will be a part of a formidable front four for Manchester City in time.

Summary

Since arriving at Manchester City we have seen snippets of quality from Omar Marmoush. His finishing, technical ability and movement do stand out. Those attributes will become crucial to City’s play in the future. We have also seen Marmoush struggle to make an impact in games and he does need to learn the nuances of Manchester City’s pressing. But you do sense that it will come for the Egyptian international. Once Marmoush puts all of the pieces together you do sense that he will become a key player for Pep Guardiola’s side. That’s why City were so keen to sign him from Eintracht Frankfurt and the early signs are he will get to that level in time.
