Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah is a wanted man this summer. Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barcelona are competing to sign the Germany international and now, according to Sky Sports, Manchester United are considering a move for the 29-year-old.
Tah will leave Bayer Leverkusen when his contract expires. “Everything was said from the start. There was a point in time when I made the decision not to extend my contract and not to stay here and it remains that way now,” said Tah last month.
Both Bayern Munich and Real Madrid have shown concrete interest in signing Tah, with both clubs failing to reach an agreement with Bayer 04 in the last two transfer windows. As such, a quartet of clubs will now compete to sign the central defender on a free transfer.
As further reported by Sky Sports, should Xabi Alonso leave his role as Bayer Leverkusen head coach for Real Madrid in the summer, then Los Blancos’ chances of signing Tah increase.
Tah was an integral player under Alonso, winning the Bundesliga and German Cup double last season, as well as going unbeaten in the Europa League before losing to Atalanta in the final.
In his 10 years at the BayArena since his move from Hamburg, Tah has played 399 games across all competitions and will almost certainly reach 400 before the end of the season.
