Following their return to the 1:1 status, FC Barcelona are still not in a position to easily reinforce their squad during the ongoing winter transfer window, and they continue to explore ways to free up space on their wage bill.

One way to create salary margin is by offloading some of their fringe squad players, but despite their efforts, no exits have materialized so far. Time is also not on their side, as the winter window is entering its final stretch, and the Catalans must step up their efforts if they hope to bring in any reinforcements for Hansi Flick’s team.

However, one thing working in the Catalans’ favor is the desire of one of their priority transfer targets to join them. The player in question is Marcus Rashford, who is still waiting for the Blaugranes to resolve their FFP issues and make a move for him.

The 27-year-old Manchester United winger, who is not part of Ruben Amorim’s plans, has no shortage of offers and has reportedly already rejected an approach from AC Milan. Clubs like West Ham, Borussia Dortmund, and Monaco are also pursuing the English winger, but Rashford’s priority remains joining the Spanish side.

In light of his situation, clubs outside Europe have also entered the race, but Rashford is not open to playing outside Europe as he aims to return to the English national team. According to Mundo Deportivo, the English winger has already rejected a ‘multi-million-pound’ offer from a Saudi club.

The report further claims that the Saudi club’s offer was worth double his current salary at Manchester United, a figure close to £600k per week. Furthermore, as previously reported, the player is even willing to make a financial sacrifice and lower his current salary to secure a move to FC Barcelona.

The ball is now in the Catalan club’s court, and they must make room in their wage bill to accommodate Rashford’s arrival. However, if the Blaugranes fail to offload any of their players in the remaining days of the winter transfer window, they can still incorporate Rashford.

To make this possible, Barcelona would need not only for the player to renounce part of his salary, but also for United to cover at least half of the forward’s wages. It remains to be seen if the Red Devils will go to such extreme lengths to part ways with the English winger, and this could lead to the transfer saga dragging on until the very end of the winter transfer window.
