Manchester United have joined Chelsea in tracking Ipswich Town forward Liam Delap.
The 21-year-old signed for Ipswich from Manchester City in a £20m deal in the summer and has made an impressive start to his Premier League career. Delap has hit six goals in 11 starts for the Tractor Boys, despite the club’s difficult start since promotion.
His performances have captured the attention of clubs higher up the division, with Manchester United the latest to keep a close eye on his development, according to The Athletic. Delap was watched closely during Ipswich’s 1-1 draw with the Red Devils last weekend.
Chelsea are also watching Delap as the West Londoners look to bring in an out-and-out centre-forward to compete with Nicolas Jackson at Stamford Bridge.
However, Manchester City have the option to ‘scupper’ a deal for their ‘Big Six’ rivals. The Premier League champions inserted both a buy-back and right to match offers option in the deal that took Delap to Portman Road.
Pep Guardiola’s side are short at centre-forward having failed to sign a replacement for Julian Alvarez, following his sale to Atletico Madrid in the summer.
