Milan will go through a changing of the guard up front in January, as Alvaro Morata has already sealed his Galatasaray switch, while Santiago Gimenez touched down in Italy to complete the formalities on Sunday. He’ll be announced later on Monday.

Per La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Rossoneri will shell out a €28.5M fee plus €1.5M add-ons. It’ll be the most expensive deal with RedBird Capital at the helm. They tried to offset it with a lucrative sale. They dangled Fikayo Tomori, but they pulled the trigger anyway even though the Englishman turned down Tottenham and decided to stay. In the end, the need to bolster the team to chase the Champions League qualification convinced the brass to okay the investment regardless.

Milan zeroed in on Gimenez a while back and eventually made Feyenoord cave, electing to ship Morata off to make room for another striker. The Spaniard has joined Galatasaray on a €6M year-long loan with a €3M option to extend it and a €6/9M clause to buy depending on the timing, either next January or in June 2026.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic explained the decision to Sky before the Derby (via Ansa).

“Alvaro is a great person and player, and I wish him the best. Sometimes things just don’t click. We followed Gimenez for many months. We tried last summer already, but the situation was different. He’s ready and motivated.”

Our Take on Milan, Morata, and Gimenez

Their management needed a win on the transfer market after a poor summer, and, while it would have been better to have both, landing a difficult priority target is always a success. It’ll be a clear upgrade in the box if his numbers translate in Serie A.
