There was a lot of excitement at The Den when they completed a deal for the striker from Notts County, as he had been prolific in the lower leagues over the past few years.

However, Langstaff has had a slow start to life in the Championship, with Harris initially using the 27-year-old from the bench.

But, he was given a first start in the league on Saturday at Loftus Road, and Langstaff responded with a big performance, as he recorded an assist for Duncan Watmore in the 1-1 draw.

Neil Harris pleased with Macaulay Langstaff showing at QPR

And, speaking to the Southwark News, Harris explained how pleased he was with Langstaff, and he was confident that the forward will get on the scoresheet in the coming games.

Macaulay was excellent. His movement was excellent, and I thought he led the line really well. We’re playing with a front four that isn’t the biggest or the most aggressive but it’s got really good movement and is really good with the ball.

Leading into the game we worked on George and Macca and Dunc and Romain, their movement was going to have to cause problems for QPR. I thought it was his best game certainly in a Millwall shirt and I’ve seen enough to know that goals will come for him.”

Macaulay Langstaff will get opportunities at Millwall

As is often the case, there needed to be patience with Langstaff, which was inevitable as he is making a big jump up to go from League Two to the Championship.

Not only that, it’s fair to say that Millwall’s style of play is different to Notts County, so there is going to be an adaptation period as the player gets used to what Harris wants from him.

But, as the boss says, there’s no doubt that the QPR game was his best outing so far, as his movement caused the R’s problems, and he obviously had a big role to play in the goal.

Moving forward, Langstaff is going to get opportunities for Millwall, as Tom Bradshaw is still recovering from a serious knee injury, and the Lions suffered a big blow as Josh Coburn is going to be out for the next few months.

With Mihailo Ivanovic, another new signing getting used to English football, Langstaff is going to become an important player for Harris.

Now, it’s down to him to take this chance, and Harris’ words of encouragement here are sure to give him a confidence boost as he searches for his first goal for the Londoners.

Millwall, who are currently 19th in the Championship, are back in action this weekend when they welcome Preston North End to The Den, as they look for their second victory of the season, with Langstaff sure to be in the XI once again from the off.
