After news emerged last week that Dortmund had told U.S. men's national team midfielder Gio Reyna to seek a new club, at least one MLS side appears to be interested, according to MLS Transfers on X (formerly Twitter).
In a post made Tuesday, MLS Transfers cited sources that have revealed LAFC and Glasgow Rangers are among clubs interested in Reyna, with others perhaps expected to join.
The account is not a frequent primary source for transfer moves. However, it has been first on occasion, including when San Diego FC eventually signed Milan Iloski from the Danish top flight. It also appears to have connections in the New York/New Jersey region, where Gio's father Claudio Reyna grew up.
Claudio's former USMNT national teammate Steve Cherundolo is the current manager of LAFC, and he once played at Rangers, so draw your own conclusions about who the source might be.
Regardless, Gio Reyna could indeed be a good fit in central midfield for an LAFC side whose primary attacking strength is out wide. And as we noted previously, Reyna's chances of returning to the top of USMNT manager Mauricio Pochettino's depth chart -- after appearing to slide last month -- couldn't be hurt by playing for a manager who also cares directly about the USMNT's outlook.
Of course, it probably wouldn't have the same potential for drama and intrigue as if Reyna found his way to another MLS club managed by a former USMNT player.
Meanwhile, Kicker has reported that St. Louis City is in the final stages of talks to sign yet another Bundesliga player with a sizable injury history, Fredrik Jensen of Augsburg.
An attack-minded midfielder who can play centrally or on either flank, Jensen has been at Augsburg in the German top flight for seven seasons but has never made more than 22 appearances or 18 starts.
He has however made nine consecutive starts between the Bundesliga and international duty for Finland, where he went the full 90 minutes last month in a 1-0 World Cup qualifying victory at Malta.
Jensen doesn't particularly appear to be a high-volume chance creator, something St. Louis could use after scoring only five times in eight matches so far. But perhaps that ability would be increased by stepping down a level to MLS.
