Strahinja Pavlovic will not be leaving AC Milan in the direction of Turkey as he has turned down a move to Fenerbahce, reports claim.

According to what is being reported by Matteo Moretto of Relevo, Fenerbahçe have closed the signing of Milan Škriniar of Paris Saint-Germain. The Slovakian defender is expected in Turkey in the next few hours to undergo medical tests and sign his contract, a picture from Yağız Sabuncuoğlu confirmed.

The Istanbul club turned to the former Inter defender because Pavlović said no to them, despite the negotiations between Fenerbahçe and Milan being positive and the deal potentially being worth over €20m.

Pavlovic will play almost out of necessity at centre-back tonight against Girona, because the absences of Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori have forced Conceiçao’s hand. In yesterday’s press conference, the Portuguese coach didn’t seem too convinced by the idea.

“Pavlovic is available to the group. It’s not his fault if he hasn’t played yet, he trained well, also with incredible desire: sometimes however he comes out of position and I don’t like that much. We have two central defenders but I can also put a midfielder to play in that position,” he said.

Thus, there is the rather bizarre situation where the 23-year-old could have been on his way to Turkey after a San Siro farewell tonight, but now looks set to remain and tonight could be an audition of sorts.
