‘Moronic’: Mark Goldbridge says Man Utd need to replace 3.5/10 player this summer | OneFootball

Famous YouTuber and Manchester United supporter Mark Goldbridge insists the club cannot afford to play Andre Onana for another campaign.

The Cameroonian extended his costly habit of committing howlers in Wednesday night’s 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town. The Red Devils had to score three times to ensure as many points against the Championship-bound side, as their goalkeeper’s shaky display saw them ship in two goals.

The former Inter Milan star’s uncanny exit from goal confused Patrick Dorgu, prompting a blunder from the January signing whose terrible pass allowed Jaden Philogene to score the opener. Onana then allowed the same player to score from a tame freekick. The ball crept into his far corner as he had anticipated a touch from another Ipswich player.

Even though the 10-man Utd escaped with a timely win, their goalkeeper couldn’t quite evade the scathing criticism, including the inevitably sassy comments from Goldbridge who described the goalkeeper’s mistake on the first goal as both ‘stupid’ and ‘moronic’, as he granted him a rating of 3.5/10.

“He’s costing us so many goals and this is just another bad performance from him. There’s an accumulation from Onana. It’s not a one-off. Everyone can have a terrible game, but he’s doing it all the bloody time,” noted the YouTuber in his post-match analysis.

“The defence has no confidence in this guy. Running across for that ball and standing where he stood was just moronic. It was absolutely stupid. You shouldn’t even stand there. If you want to get that close to Dorgu you should stand diagonally, not behind him. It was just incredibly bad positioning and he should have never done it.”

Goldbridge also blamed Onana on the second goal, insisting he should have followed the ball’s track rather than expecting a touch from the attacker.

“Your job is quite simply to follow the track of the ball. Yes, the attacker is there to get it, but that’s on the defender. That’s on De Ligt. If the attacker gets there, you can’t save it. So why is your body reacting to it?

“I don’t know if we got any money to do it, or if it’s possible to do it, but some people say he’s the worst goalkeeper we ever had in the Premier League era. I don’t know about that, I think Taibi was pretty bad, but he’s certainly no De Gea, Schmeicher or Van der Sar, so we need something better, don’t we?”

United signed Onana from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023 on a deal worth circa £50 million. This has been considered by many as a terrible piece of business on the club’s part.
