Defender Stefan de Vrij was the only Inter Milan player to emerge with any credit as the “Titanic” sank against Fiorentina yesterday.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. The Dutchman is the one player to receive a passing grade after a disastrous performance and result from the Nerazzurri.
As a whole, there were very few positives to take from Inter’s Serie A loss to Fiorentina yesterday.
The Nerazzurri didn’t just fail to catch up to Napoli in the table with their game in hand. They suffered an outright humiliation.
Inter lost by a three-goal scoreline for the first time in six years. And there was nothing harsh or unfortunate about the scoreline considering the run of play and the balance of chances.
For Tuttosport, Inter went down like the Titanic.
However, there was one Nerazzurri player who did keep their head above water on the sinking ship.
Defender Stefan de Vrij has been a real stalwart for Inter in recent weeks.
The Dutchman has had to start virtually every match at the heart of the Nerazzurri back three with Francesco Acerbi out due to injury.

And de Vrij has rarely put a foot wrong during that stretch.
And it was more of the same in that respect against Fiorentina yesterday.
Even though Fiorentina scored three goals, Stefan de Vrij was not really at fault for any of them.
The former Lazio defender did his best to mark Viola striker Moise Kean. And he was alert around the penalty area, making a number of important clearances.
The ship may have been sinking around de Vrij. But he did what he could to try and keep it afloat.
