Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak is expected to be fit when the Magpies take on Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final on March 16 at Wembley Stadium, according to the Daily Mail journalist Craig Hope.
The Toons star missed the Premier League clash against Liverpool last night due to a groin issue and could be unavailable when they host Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup at St James Park on Sunday.
However, Newcastle should have Isak available for action on March 10 when they take on West Ham United and Liverpool six days later.
“My information today is that,” Hope said.
“While there is every chance Isak will sit out Sunday’s visit of Brighton, there are no fears of the groin injury that saw him miss Wednesday’s 2-0 defeat at Liverpool being serious.
“Rather, if the tightness is linked to fatigue, the schedule allows for the Swede to have a period of rest before the trip to West Ham a week on Monday.
“So, to answer the above question – yes, Alexander Isak will be OK for the final!”
Newcastle are looking to win a first major trophy since 1955, and being without one of their best players for such a game will be a huge blow.
Luckily for them, Isak has not suffered a serious injury and they have no plans to rush him back into action.
The 25-year-old has 21 goals across all competitions so far in 2024-25, and he was hugely missed against the Reds last night.
Magpies manager Eddie Howe will be praying Isak recovers fully well in the coming days, and he will fancy their chances against Liverpool at a neutral ground with the hitman in the starting XI.
Newcastle will hope to be third-time lucky when they play the Reds at Wembley after failing to win against them home and away in the Premier League this term, and winning the Carabao Cup final will be a huge boost for them going forward.
