The 14 clubs listed below belong to an esteemed and exclusive band, that our very own and beloved Newcastle United have recently had the pleasure and privilege of joining.
Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Leeds United, Nottingham Forest, West Bromwich Albion, Aston Villa, Sheffield Wednesday, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leicester City and Blackburn Rovers.
On Sunday 16th March 2025, Newcastle United became the 15th club to have won all three major English domestic competitions.
I am canny pleased to say that, and after two previous failed attempts in 1976 and 2023, the Toon finally cracked it in style against the holders Liverpool.
The red scousers have actually won the League Cup a record 10 times in their illustrious history (of course they apparently don’t take it very seriously…ahem).
Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea had hoovered up all of the League Cups available since 2014 (that is of course before the Toon sensationally gatecrashed their cosy little jamboree).
This makes a mockery of the theory that the League Cup is a ‘Mickey Mouse’ competition.
Looking at the list above it is refreshing to see famous old clubs like Wolves, Sheff Wed, Blackburn and West Brom in the gang so to speak.
There are also a few famous clubs (and one particularly infamous one in my eyes) who are not on the list above.
Think of the likes of Everton, Derby County, Bolton Wanderers, Preston North End, maybe even Birmingham City at a push, and eventually, dare I say it, Sunderland.
Looking at the bigger picture, I think it’s probably safe to assume that Newcastle United will be the 15th and last club to achieve the feat of winning all three domestic trophies.
