Newcastle United as measured up against any other Premier League team.
Which Premier League team is outperforming a rival?
For Newcastle United and the rest, it surely comes down to what it always does.
How many matches you are winning AND how many you are losing.
So I have had a look at all 20 Premier League clubs this season, as we are now moving into 2025.
We are now five months into the 2024/25 season, this is how many matches each Premier League team has won and lost, in Premier League AND domestic cup competition (as of the morning of 5 January 2025):
17 and 1 Liverpool
11 and 5 Chelsea
11 and 5 Forest
11 and 7 Man City
10 and 7 Villa
9 and 5 Bournemouth
9 and 10 Brentford
9 and 10 Tottenham
8 and 5 Fulham
8 and 6 Brighton
8 and 9 Man U
7 and 8 Palace
7 and 10 West Ham
5 and 12 Wolves
5 and 13 Leicester
4 and 9 Everton
4 and 17 Southampton
3 and 11 Ipswich
As you can see above, when it comes to domestic competitions this season, Newcastle United are the third most successful, when it comes to winning and (not) losing.
So far in 2024/25, NUFC only behind Liverpool and Arsenal. Whilst if United made it seven victories in a row on Tuesday, Eddie Howe’s side will have then won MORE domestic games this season than Arsenal!
Newcastle United have now won three matches more than Man City and Chelsea (and Forest).
Yet until very recently, some Newcastle United fans had been wanting Eddie Howe sacked…
The media (and some Newcastle fans) still making out that it had been some kind of recent NUFC crisis, yet the last thirteen United matches (all competitions) over the course of ten weeks, have seen nine wins, two draws and only the two defeats.
