Didier Deschamps defends Mbappe

However, despite the intense criticism from fans and pundits alike, Mbappe has received familiar support in the form of Didier Deschamps.

Speaking to TF1 Broadcast (h/t MARCA), the French national team coach has backed the Frenchman to regain his best form in the near future.

Although Deschamps admitted that Mbappe is ‘going through a complicated situation’ at Madrid, he reminded everyone that ‘does not take away from what he has done’.

Deschamps went on to add that Mbappe will soon regain his top form. “I have no reason to think otherwise,” he added.

Mbappé’s recent exclusion from France’s squads for the Nations League has raised eyebrows, but Deschamps is optimistic and warned that social media could have a negative impact on footballers these days.

Deschamps on Mbappe’s position

Moving on to the big debate surrounding Mbappe’s failure to perform in the number nine position, Deschamps pointed out how he is not new to the position.

“He has played in that position with his last two club coaches,” he pointed out.

“He doesn’t have the profile of Oliver Giroud, but it also depends on the opposing team. He can play in various positions. How to utilise him is down to the clubs,” he concluded.
