The total amount of agents fees paid by football clubs in England has now been made public.
The decision was made a while ago by the authorities that all agents fees paid by top English clubs had to be made public in the need for transparency.
This latest period covers the last two transfer windows (Summer 2024 and January 2025) and represents all intermediary and agents’ fees paid by clubs during the specified period via the FA’s clearing account.
Remember, this is money paid to the middle men, that is not just necessarily when buying players, plenty of clubs using agents to help sell players as well.
Chelsea with a staggering £60m+ spent on agents fees.
Though Man City not far behind, having spent £52m+ themselves.
Man U (£33m) in third, then Aston Villa (£25m).
Whilst in fifth are Newcastle United, with a spend on agents fees of £24,366,737, compared to £18,881,923 the previous (2023/24) season. So United spending some £5.5m more in 2024/25 than in 2023/24.
The spending this 2024/25 season is £409,137,387 by the 20 Premier League clubs, compared to the 2023/24 figure of £409,592,929, so actually just over £450,000 less this time, though when you are talking about such massive amounts, hundreds of thousands is nothing compared to hundreds of millions.
Back in 2022/23, the Premier League clubs spent £318m on agents fees, so both of these latest two seasons some £91m up on that figure.
As for Newcastle United, the progression has been £10.7m (2022/23), £18.8m (2023/24) and now £24.3m in 2024/25.
Here though are the official FA amounts for agents fees for each club in this Premier League season – 2024/25:
All intermediary and agents’ fees paid by Premier League clubs over the past year (Summer 2024 and January 2025 transfer windows):
With Newcastle United, it might seem a bit puzzling how the figure is so high, considering not a lot of expensive incoming transfer activity when it comes to the first team this season.
However, agents fees accumulate due to all kinds of transactions, Newcastle United have had a lot of players sign contract extensions in this time period, plus of course continuing to recruit a lot of young players from around the UK and overseas, who will hopefully be the stars of the future.
The previous season breakdown club by club…
All intermediary and agents fees paid by Premier League clubs in the 2023/24 season (Summer 2023 and January 2024 transfer windows):
The spending this season is £409m by the 20 Premier League clubs, actually a few hundred thousand pounds less than last (2023/24) season.
However, both this (2024/25) season and last (2023/24) season are £91m up, compared to the 2022/23 season (£318m).
So much money going out of football in agents fees. This benefits nobody, apart from the agents of course!!!
