Manchester United had their sight set on securing Nuno Mendes as transfer rumors emerged. With Ruben Amorim at the helm at Old Trafford, it came as no surprise that he wanted a player who he coached at Sporting Lisbon.

Manuel Ugarte, one of Manchester United’s summer signings, has quickly found his stride under Amorim’s guidance despite a tough start to his first year in the Premier League after his move from PSG.

The Red Devils were banking on Mendes not agreeing to sign an extension with the Parisians and thus having an opening to land the player. Despite the rumors, PSG eventually reached an agreement with the left-back over a new contract.

RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins reports that Mendes’ extension will run until 2029 and make him one of the club’s highest earners, and he is set to follow PSG’s new wage policy: a fixed wage plus performance-based and matches played bonuses.

Eventually, Manchester United needed to abandon their pursuit of Mendes and turned their attention to Patrick Dorgu.

The Red Devils have agreed to pay Lecce €30 million, with an additional €5 million in performance-related bonuses. The 20-year-old has signed a contract that runs until 2030, with an option for one more year.
