Another key attacking piece at Montpellier HSC will not be around to help them in their quest to avoid relegation.
A day after Akor Adams (24) signed with Sevilla in La Liga, Arnaud Nordin (26) also moved overseas. The Paris-born striker has joined FSV Mainz in the German Bundesliga, signing with them until 2028.
L’Équipe reports that his transfer fee is around €1m.
Nordin was the leading goalscorer for Montpellier in Ligue 1 this season, netting four times in 16 appearances.
In the end, having some familiar faces at Mainz and their brand of football swayed the French attacker to come to the Bundesliga.
“Love football and the style of play in Mainz. I know Anthony Caci, with whom I participated in the Olympics with the French selection (…) I now look forward to getting to know our fans, the city and the culture here,” Nordin said upon his arrival.
A Coupe de France runner-up with AS Saint-Étienne in 2019-20, Nordin’s appeal was his versatility, ability to play all attacking positions, great dribbling skills, and the fact that he can play with both feet.
Nordin leaves La Paillade in the midst of their desperate fight to stave off relegation, currently second from the bottom with 15 points. They are two points below Stade Rennais in the relegation play-off battle and three behind Saint-Étienne to remain in the top flight next season.
Mainz are enjoying a fine campaign in the German top flight, currently sixth in the table with 31 points, holding a spot in the Europa Conference League qualifiers. Only two points currently separate them from VfB Stuttgart in fourth, and an automatic berth in the UEFA Champions League group stage.
