Some interesting Opta predictions on the chances of Newcastle United and the other Premier League clubs qualifying for the Champions League.
This follows the weekend’s Premier League matches.
Sunday seeing Newcastle 4 Nottingham Forest 3, followed by Man City 0 Liverpool 2.
That win over Forest looking huge for Eddie Howe’s side.
These are the complete results from all the weekend’s PL fixtures, which have now given Champions League hopes a massive boost for Newcastle United:
Leicester 0 Brentford 4
Everton 2 Man U 2
Bournemouth 0 Wolves 1
Arsenal 0 West Ham 1
Fulham 0 Palace 2
Ipswich 1 Spurs 4
Southampton 0 Brighton 4
Villa 2 Chelsea 1
Newcastle 4 Forest 3
Man City 0 Liverpool 2
This is how the Premier League table now currently looks on Monday (24 February 2025) morning:
A seriously perfect weekend for all those associated with Newcastle United.
Of the top eight in the Premier League ahead of the weekend, only Liverpool and Newcastle winning.
The other six all losing – Arsenal, Forest, Man City, Bournemouth, Chelsea and Fulham.
When it comes to predicting what that final Premier League table will look like after the 38th round of fixtures in May 2025, Opta have done some analysis.
Using their latest data simulations, Opta analysis has shown this as the most likely 2024/25 Premier League table come the end of the season – As at 24 February 2025:
So when it comes to Newcastle United, Opta believe NUFC most likely to finish fifth this season
Newcastle United to end up with 63 points according to their predictions.
The Opta model currently predicting a 32% chance of Newcastle United qualifying for the Champions League by finishing top four and 20% chance of ending up in Europa League.
There is also of course the all but certainty now of the Premier League getting an extra Champions League place next season, due to the results of English teams in Europe this season. So if that does indeed happen, then the chances for all competing Premier League teams seriously increase, in terms of getting Champions League qualification.
Also, once Wednesday night at Anfield is out of the way, Newcastle only have one game remaining (Arsenal away) against a team currently in the top six, but six still to play against those in the bottom eight.
