Manchester City have been once again greeted by the very welcome return of Oscar Bobb to first-team training following a recent setback in the Norwegian’s recovery.
The Norway international forward has been sidelined from City action since the start of the season, having sustained a freak leg fracture injury during training prior to the opening game of the Premier League season.
Despite the arrival of Savinho from ESTAC Troyes, many were tipping Oscar Bobb to breakthrough as a consistent starter for Pep Guardiola’s side this season, particularly off the back of a stellar pre-season camp with the reigning Premier League champions.
However, with many supporters eagerly awaiting his return to the fold this season, Bobb’s recovery and road towards a full comeback has been far from straightforward, having sustained a setback in his training regime earlier in February.
It is believed that the 21-year-old had sustained an ankle problem during a Manchester City training session, pushing back his return date by several more weeks as Guardiola’s side continue to struggle to find consistency in their own performances.
And having overcome the ankle problem that had been sustained in City training during the first few days of February, Oscar Bobb has now returned to Pep Guardiola’s sessions at the City Football Academy this week.
The Catalan coach told reporters of the Norwegian’s recovery process during a press conference on Tuesday, “We spoke with the doctors and he feels really, really good and much, much better than when he came back.
“He had a problem, some disturbance, could not run properly. That’s why at the end he came back, stopped, came back, stopped, and at the end with the doctors wisely decided, ‘OK stop until you feel this little discomfort that you have in your ankle can be better and can train’.
“And I think he’s in the last part (of recovery), and I think he’ll be back soon. But I said that one month ago and still he’s not here, so hopefully this time it can happen.”
Guardiola was further asked for an insight into the sort of boost that could be provided by Oscar Bobb upon the versatile forward’s returned to Manchester City matchday action, as he responded, “Everyone, when we saw him in pre-season, was so excited!
“He’s a guy that can create in small spaces and helps us in terms of intensity to make the people from up front the first action so aggressive. He’s like an addiction for the people who play behind, and Oscar is the best!
“So intelligent, smart, rhythm that he plays, and he can play as a right-winger, in the pockets, even striker, in small spaces and as a runner and in finishing, he’s difficult to find!”
It remains to be seen when Bobb could be deemed ready enough to make his Manchester City return, although the FA Cup fifth round tie against Plymouth Argyle may be deemed as an opportunity to bring him back into the matchday squad as a starting point.
