Jadon Sancho will reportedly have the option of reviving his currently-stagnant career in Turkey next season.

When the winger’s loan switch to Chelsea was signed and sealed last summer, Manchester United fans thought they’d seen the last of the underwhelming £72 million signing, given a £25m obligation-to-buy was included in the clubs’ agreement.

However, with his form in a blue shirt leaving much to be desired throughout the campaign, Chelsea are said to be planning to pay a £5m penalty to bypass the obligation clause and send Sancho back to Old Trafford.

Chelsea to opt against Sancho signing

From there, you’d imagine INEOS will be keen to offload him as swiftly as possible.

Sancho’s notorious first-team exile in M16 took place under ex-manager Erik ten Hag. Yet, there’s little to no chance Ruben Amorim will be willing to take a chance on a £250,000-a-week player who’s produced four hugely underwhelming seasons in the English top-flight.

That’s where Jose Mourinho comes in. Turkish outlet Yeni Asir claims the Portuguese coach has signed off on Fenerbahce’s pursuit of Sancho ahead of the window opening next month, although they will face competition from arch-rivals and this term’s Super Lig champions, Galatasaray.

Sancho’s United tenure has been a disaster for all parties involved

There’s no skirting around the fact that a move to the Turkish division, while still a top European league, is a fall from grace for a 25-year-old who was once considered one of the most prodigous talents in world football – hence why United paid such a ludicrous fee to prise him from Borussia Dortmund in 2021.

Sancho has failed to replicate the scintillating form displayed in his first Dortmund stint, and now, four years on from his exit, there are doubts he could ever reach such highs again.

It remains to be seen what kind of fee United will demand for the forward, presumably one in the region of £20-25m.
