Rafael Leao has turned his season around with a great run of form in recent weeks, starting with the 3-1 win against Real Madrid. As highlighted by Carlo Pellegatti, Paulo Fonseca must have worked some magic.

The start to the season was far from ideal for Leao, finding the back of the net just once in his first nine league appearances. As a result, Fonseca decided to bench him more and the manager got a fair bit of criticism for that.

However, taking the last three games into consideration, it seems he did something right as Leao has three goals and one assist between club and country. Speaking on his YouTube channel, as transcribed by PianetMilan, Carlo Pellegatti shared his thoughts on the goal scored yesterday.

“Yesterday, I saw an extraordinary Leao again. I don’t know what magic Fonseca worked. It was a pure centre-forward goal. Since the match against Real Madrid, there has been a new Rafa and I don’t think it’s just the merit of a few benches. Everyone expected something to click in Leao’s head and it seems to have happened.

“It all started with the shot saved by Lunin against Madrid. This was the first time I saw Leao like a striker in the centre of the area. I had never seen a turn from Leao as a pure striker. Then the header on Emerson Royal’s cross. Against Cagliari two goals inside the area: in the second goal he almost looked like Inzaghi.

“In short, he is the great protagonist of Milan as a true striker. Against Portugal he starts from his flank and goes central: a move like Theo Hernandez. He scores with a header like a true striker.

“Gentlemen, we have had a new Leao for three games, he seems to have the desire to play again. Fonseca is transforming Leao into a true striker. With this return to scoring, I think Leao will be re-examined by many clubs. Fonseca’s work is incredible.”

As Juventus are up next, Leao has certainly gound his form at the right moment and he will be hoping to lead Milan to three heavy points. Of course, Milan fans shouldn’t get carried away but there has been a clear difference lately.
