Lorenzo Pellegrini has undergone surgery which is likely to rule him out of action for the next 4 months.
Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini underwent surgery on Friday at the Pihlajalinna Hospital in Turku, Finland, for a rectus femoris injury he suffered in training last week.
The midfielder was operated on by sports orthopedic surgeon Lasse Lempainen, a trusted name for many top-level footballers.
“It was a tendon injury to the rectus femoris that required surgery. The operation, which was performed today, went very well,” Lempainen said in a statement to is.fi.
“Pellegrini will be able to begin his rehabilitation in Rome very soon. My estimate is that he can return to his best level in about four months.”
This stoppage will therefore force Pellegrini to miss preseason training and the start of next season.
In the season just ended, the Roma captain made 25 appearances in Serie A, with 2 goals and 2 assists, and 7 appearances in the Europa League, with one goal and one assist.
Professor Lempainen is known in the football world for having operated in the past on stars such as Ousmane Dembélé, Nordi Mukiele and Nuno Mendes of Paris Saint-Germain, as well as Argentine Giovani Lo Celso and Barcelona players Ronald Araújo and Sergi Roberto.
