Pep Guardiola took aim at Crystal Palace’s “time wasting” after his Man City side’s FA Cup final defeat.

Ebere Eze scored the only goal of the game as Crystal Palace lifted the FA Cup for the first time in their history, and condemned City to back-to-back FA Cup final defeats after their loss to Manchester United last season.

Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson, who was perhaps lucky to stay on the pitch when he appeared to handle the ball outside of the area with Erling Haaland racing through on goal, also saved a first-half penalty from Omar Marmoush.

City boss Guardiola congratulated his counterpart Oliver Glasner but was left unhappy with the amount of time wasting in the game, and was seen arguing with Henderson after the final whistle.

On that disagreement, he said: “He defended his position, we defend our position.

“I understand it in the last minutes, but it was since one or two minutes.

“I’m sorry. Everyone can do whatever they want. We have to score goals. We didn’t lose because Henderson was time wasting.

“In the last minutes, I understand that. But after, it’s true, they give nine or 10 minutes extra time. So at the end, it’s that, but it’s a question of rhythm.

“All the fans, you know, are there to watch the 22 players play.

“So when you see Barcelona when they are losing, they are attack, attack, attack, attacking the other team. It’s beautiful.

“But I understand his position. It’s a question of the referee. It’s not my question.

“We don’t have the rhythm that maybe you need. I understand when you’re 92 minutes, 86, 87, you know, but I don’t feel it. So my teams, I never tried, because I tried to play the game like the people deserve to watch.

“But congratulations Henderson and Crystal Palace, because at the end, they defend really, really well, and we were not able to score a goal.”
