PSG ‘expecting’ Man Utd offer to sign £63m star, Amorim could make major decision – report | OneFootball

Paris Saint-Germain are expecting to compete with Manchester United to sign one of Europe’s in-form strikers next summer, according to L’Equipe.

The Red Devils have had a below-par start to the Premier League campaign. They are currently 13th in the table with 12 points after 10 matches.

United have scored just nine goals in the top-flight. Incoming manager Ruben Amorim has a huge job on his hands to improve the club’s fortunes.

Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have netted just three goals between them and there is a possibility that the club could sign another marquee striker.

A big-money acquisition is not expected until next summer, but L’Equipe claim that PSG are ‘expecting’ a transfer battle with United to land Viktor Gyokeres.

Sporting director Luis Campos has identified him as one of the two main targets for PSG next summer. His assistant Olivier Gagne has already made contact with Gyokeres’ agents.

However, PSG manager Luis Enrique is not entirely convinced over the decision to spend big on him.

This could reportedly work in the Red Devils’ favour, considering Amorim is set to leave Sporting CP to become their new manager from Monday onwards.

Amorim could play a key role in persuading Gyokeres to move to Old Trafford.

United could have upper hand in Gyokeres pursuit

The 26-year-old has been in sensational form since his move to Sporting CP from Coventry City last year.

The Sweden international has netted 66 goals from just 67 appearances for the Lisbon outfit. Out of those, 23 have come from 17 outings in the ongoing season.

Gyokeres has a gentleman’s agreement to leave the club for £63 million next summer and Premier League clubs have already been informed over the reported valuation.

The likes of Arsenal and Chelsea are also admirers of the Swede, but United could have the upper hand in the pursuit following the appointment of Amorim at the helm.

The 39-year-old has transformed Gyokeres into one of the most fearsome strikers in European football and the Swede could be tempted by a reunion at Old Trafford.

The only stumbling block could be United’s European status. It remains to be seen whether Gyokeres would be open to joining United if they miss out on Champions League football again.
