Paris Saint-Germain seized the upper hand in their UEFA Champions League semi-final against Arsenal and will take a 1-0 advantage back to the Parc des Princes for next week’s second leg.
Ousmane Dembélé got the only goal of the game, sweeping home in the fourth minute at the Emirates. However, L’Équipe reports that there weren’t any scenes of jubilation in the PSG dressing room post-match but rather an atmosphere of “satisfaction“. That was reflected in Nasser Al-Khelaifi’s post-match speech, where he reminded staff and players that the tie had only reached the halfway point.
In the dressing room and on the way back to the airport before returning to Paris, the players and staff debriefed the match against Arsenal. Les Parisiens found that the Gunners were “a bit too confident” heading into the encounter, as reflected on social media and in pre-match comments, L’Équipe reports.
There was a sense of being “untouchable” that the PSG camp sensed from the Gunners’ comments, as if having beaten Real Madrid, Arsenal were going to face a “small” team in the form of PSG.
