West Ham have made an audacious bid to land summer target Jhon Duran from Aston Villa.
Following what was a protracted period of frustration during the summer transfer window, with the club in negotiations with the midlands club for a number of weeks to try and land Duran, a deal could not be realised.
West Ham went on to sign Niclas Fullkrug and Duran subsequently remained at Villa, signed a new deal and has been in prolific form both domestically and on the European stage.
However in a shocking twist, West Ham have again gone back in for the striker this January, despite a clear reluctance from Villa to sell and having placed a £70m price tag on the player.
Despite this, the club have continued to table a £57m offer for Duran, which has left many puzzled, especially considering the apparent financial restraints this January due to PSR.
All connected with the club will be keeping a close eye on affairs and how this develops, with a fear another ‘smoke & mirrors’ scenario could be at play in east London once again.
