Real Madrid’s open letter condemning the refereeing system in Spain, after the 1-0 defeat to RCD Espanyol, has stirred up a lot of controversy.

Los Blancos have drawn the ire of several clubs as well as La Liga itself, with president Javier Tebas launching scathing attacks on the reigning champions.

Earlier today, there was further escalation as La Liga filed a complaint against Real Madrid and their letter with the Spanish Football Federation’s (RFEF) Disciplinary Committee, while continuing to explore further legal actions against the club.

However, according to MARCA, Real Madrid remain completely calm in the face of the complaint filed by La Liga with the RFEF’s Disciplinary Committee.

La Liga’s complaint to the RFEF came at the insistence of several clubs, with Sevilla being the most vocal against Los Blancos.

The Spanish capital club, though, are holding firm on their stance and even have a defence ready for their position.

Indeed, the Merengues’ defence will be based on the numerous attacks that the very clubs behind the complaint have made in recent years – attacks that have repeatedly been directed at the decisions made by referees in matches involving Real Madrid.

This season alone, several incidents have led to other clubs raising questions about the actions of referees.

Notably, Barcelona, on more than one occasion, have publicly questioned refereeing decisions while Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone, in a press conferences, suggested that Real Madrid had been favoured by officials over the past 100 years.

Sevilla, the club that has most recently been vocal in its criticism of Real Madrid, have also questioned the refereeing, utilising their own television channel and various social media platforms.

Real Madrid remains steadfast in their commitment to addressing what they believe to be systemic problems in the refereeing structure of Spanish football and will not waver from their position.
