Real Madrid will lock horns with Arsenal in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night in London.

The Merengues go into the game without a number of important players as Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao, Dani Ceballos, and Ferland Mendy through injuries while Aurelien Tchouameni is also suspended.

Mendy a doubt for the second leg

Now, according to MARCA, Mendy remains a doubt for the second leg of the quarter-final tie against Arsenal later this month.

The 29-year-old left-back has missed the Merengues’ last four matches across all competitions since suffering a muscle injury during the Champions League extra-time win over Atletico Madrid in March.

It was expected that Mendy could be back just in time for the trip to London to take on Arsenal, but things have not turned out that way.

Now, the report mentions that his recovery is taking longer than initially expected and as such there are doubts about the Frenchman’s availability for the second leg at the Bernabeu.

This is a concerning development given that Fran Garcia has failed to convince while stepping in for Mendy and Eduardo Camavinga is not a natural in the position.

As such, Carlo Ancelotti is considering using David Alaba at left-back, a position the veteran defender used to play in before turning into a centre-back, tomorrow and based on how things go, he could again be an option for the second leg.

As for Mendy, the former Olympique Lyon star has played 30 games so far this season, registering two assists. If not for the second leg vs Arsenal, Real Madrid will hope to have him back in time for the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona.
