Real Madrid’s ability to adapt and evolve has been a defining theme of their season so far.

Injuries to Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao have already forced Carlo Ancelotti to experiment, with Raul Asencio emerging as a surprising success and Federico Valverde covering at right-back in key matches.

Now, with Ferland Mendy also injured in the Madrid derby and Fran Garcia struggling with discomfort, another tactical reshuffle is on the cards.

Camavinga and Valverde as full-backs?

As a result of these events, Ancelotti could try the potential deployment of Eduardo Camavinga at left-back, a role he has previously occupied for both Real Madrid and the French national team.

At the same time, Valverde—naturally a midfielder—could continue to operate at right-back.

This would mean that two of Madrid’s key midfielders would be covering the full-back positions, a solution that might not be ideal but certainly highlights their versatility.

A similar scenario has already played out with Aurelien Tchouameni, who has been used as a centre-back multiple times this season, showcasing his adaptability.

In modern football, positional flexibility is a prized asset, and Real Madrid’s squad is proving they can adapt to almost any situation.

Temporary fix before summer reinforcements?

Despite these temporary solutions, Madrid remains active in the transfer market.

Reports suggest they are closing in on a move for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who would reinforce the right flank, while Miguel Gutierrez of Girona is one of the names considered for the left-back spot.

For now, Ancelotti will have to continue improvising, but if there’s one thing this season has proven, it’s that Madrid thrives under adversity.

Whether Camavinga and Valverde can provide a long-term solution remains to be seen, but their adaptability and work ethic ensure Madrid remains competitive even in the face of injury setbacks.
