According to Fabrice Hawkins from RMC Sport, Arsenal’s highly-rated defender William Saliba has emerged as Real Madrid’s top defensive target.
However, despite this interest, Arsenal are unlikely to entertain offers for their prized asset. The London club sees Saliba as a key figure in their future plans and would only consider an astronomical fee if they were ever to part ways with him.
Real Madrid are facing a growing need to reinforce their defence, especially as the current roster includes David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger, both of whom are in their 30s.
While there might not be an immediate crisis, the club is looking ahead and evaluating younger defensive options to maintain their dominance in both domestic and European competitions.
Among these considerations, Saliba stands out as a perfect candidate for the Spanish giants.
The French international checks every box for Real Madrid’s defensive requirements — from his excellent ability to read the game to his impressive tackling skills and top-tier distribution.

His strong physical presence only strengthens his appeal for the La Liga giants. However, signing Saliba will be no simple task. Arsenal are expected to demand a record-breaking fee to discourage any offers from Real Madrid.
Some insiders believe that if Saliba ever leaves Arsenal, he could become the most expensive defender in football history.
This is not the first time Real Madrid have pursued the Frenchman. During the previous summer transfer window, the club made contact with Saliba, but Arsenal firmly rejected any negotiations.
Their stance remains unchanged, making it difficult for Real Madrid to move forward with their pursuit.
Saliba remains under contract with Arsenal until 2027, which further strengthens the club’s position.
Whether Real Madrid will succeed in prying him away will depend on whether Arsenal soften their stance and how much the Spanish club is willing to invest in the deal. For now, it seems Arsenal are determined to keep their defensive cornerstone intact.
