The past few days has been a rollercoaster, to say the least, as far as the future of Joshua Kimmich is concerned.

The German international’s contract at Bayern Munich expires at the end of the season, with the player yet to reach an agreement with the Bavarians.

Although Bayern are keen on tying Kimmich down to a new contract, the player has taken a curiously long time to respond to the club’s offers.

This has led to speculation over his future at the club, with many expecting him to leave the club on a free transfer in the summer.

Real Madrid rejected the chance to sign Kimmich

Amid Kimmich’s ongoing transfer saga, a recent report from Kicker has suggested that Real Madrid were among the clubs who were offered the chance to sign the midfielder.

Indeed, the reigning European champions were given the opportunity to sign Kimmich through an intermediary.

However, Real Madrid rejected the opportunity as they had no interest in acquiring the services of the German international, even on a free transfer.

It appears Real Madrid are not too keen on the idea of signing an ageing midfielder. They are, instead, looking for some young blood into the midfield ranks, as they still look for a viable replacement for the retired Toni Kroos.

While Luka Modric looks likely to continue, Real Madrid might want to splurge on a new defensive midfielder next summer, with Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton emerging as the latest target for Los Blancos.

As for Kimmich, it will be interesting to see whether or not the German midfield general ends up renewing his contract at Bayern Munich.
