Real Madrid star misses training ahead of Atlético clash | OneFootball

A leading member of the midfield ranks at La Liga champions Real Madrid was nowhere to be seen in group training once more on Sunday.

That’s according to Diario AS, who point towards Federico Valverde as the player in question.

Valverde, for his part, has not featured in any of Real Madrid’s last three fixtures across all competitions. This comes with the Uruguayan international struggling with a couple of niggling fitness issues.

Los Blancos of course struggled in the absence of their engine room standout on Saturday, en route to a 2-1 La Liga defeat at the hands of Real Betis.

It will in turn no doubt mark a source of concern for the club’s supporters to learn that Valverde, still, has not been given the green light to return to group activities.

As per AS, just 48 hours out from the highly-anticipated Madrid Derby first-leg showdown in the Champions League, the 26-year-old is continuing to struggle for match fitness.

Real Madrid themselves have confirmed:

“Valverde has trained individually inside and on the pitch. Tomorrow it will be decided if he can train with the group.”
