As confirmed earlier today, Real Betis have been successful in their appeal to overturn winger Antony’s red card ahead of the weekend’s La Liga encounter against Real Madrid.
The Brazilian international, on loan at the club from Manchester United, was sent off with a direct red card by referee Alberola Rojas during the game against Getafe for a dangerous tackle.
However, Los Verdiblancos appealed the verdict and are said to have provided video evidence that convinced the RFEF Disciplinary Committee to overturn the decision and cancel his red card – making him eligible to feature vs. Real Madrid later this week.
Following this, journalist Melchor Ruiz of COPE reports that Real Madrid have been left surprised by the Disciplinary Committee’s decision to rescind Antony’s red card.
It is because the committee reversed a decision taken by the on-field official, essentially re-refereeing the play, which is something very unusual.

It must be noted that Los Blancos had an appeal of their shot down by the RFEF Committee earlier this month when they tried to get Jude Bellingham’s red card overturned, with the midfielder getting handed a two-match ban.
An alternate report from Mundo Deportivo higlights that even the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA) was left surprised by the Disciplinary Committee’s decision to cancel Antony’s red card.
They believe that the incident was well refereed by Alberola Rojas and the right decision was made, with the player in question even apologising for his action.
This comes against the backdrop of Real Madrid’s ongoing war with the refereeing system in La Liga.
The Merengues are calling for a complete change of structure, especially with several dubious decisions going against them in recent weeks. Now, the situation with Antony’s red card is unlikely to go down well at Valdebebas.
