MIAMI – Women’s soccer continues to provide interesting storylines as one of Mexico’s star players moves across the border in one of the noteworthy transfers between Concacaf W leagues.

The international break paused action in Liga MX Femenil, but Club América and Tigres UANL continue their preparations ahead of the 2024/25 Concacaf W Champions Cup Finals in May. NJ/NY Gotham FC and Portland Thorns, the other semifinalists, continue in preseason as the 2025 NWSL season approaches.

USWNT to meet Japan in SheBelieves Cup Final

The United States women’s national team has started the year with consecutive wins in the SheBelieves Cup. The reigning Concacaf W Gold Cup winners won 2-nil against Colombia last Thursday in Houston, Texas, followed by a 2-1 win over Australia on Sunday in Glendale, Arizona.

The U.S. will meet Japan, who also has six points, to decide the winner of the cup on Wednesday in San Diego, California. Japan earned a 4-nil win over Australia and a 4-1 win over Colombia.

Rebeca Bernal moves to NWSL with Washington Spirit

Four-time Liga MX Femenil champion and Mexico captain Rebeca Bernal is moving to the United States capital with NWSL Washington Spirit. The Mexican defender joins on a three-year deal in a transfer from CF Monterrey Femenil.

Bernal joins the 2024 NWSL Championship runners-up after playing for Rayadas the past eight seasons. She appeared in over 250 Liga MX Femenil matches, leading the Nuevo Leon side to three Apertura titles (2019, 2021, 2024) and one Clausura title (2024).

Brooklyn FC continues to lead the USL Super League

The USL Super League continued its 2024/25 season with every team in action over the weekend.

Dallas Trinity FC fell 1-nil at home to Spokane Zephyr FC, Tampa Bay Sun FC, and Brooklyn FC drew 1-1, Fort Lauderdale United FC won 2-nil over Lexington SC, and Carolina Ascent FC tied 3-3 against DC Power FC.

Brooklyn FC continues to lead the standings with 30 points. Carolina (25 pts.), Dallas (24), and Fort Lauderdale (24) round out the current playoff picture.

Clásico Regio breaks viewership record

The most viewed match of the Liga MX Femenil Clausura 2025 season was the Tigres UANL 5-nil away victory against rival CF Monterrey in matchweek nine. The match reached a television audience of 393,610 viewers.

The match drew an additional 326,000 views through the league’s FUTFEM DONDE SEA initiative, with more than 204,000 views on the Liga BBVA MX Femenil channels on YouTube and Facebook, as well as another 122,000 views through the clubs' platforms.
