Chelsea are giving serious consideration to a summer move for AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan according to reports.

Despite signing a number of goalkeepers over the last few windows Chelsea have still got problems in the goalkeeping department.

The decision was taken to make Robert Sanchez number one, whilst the Blues signed both Filip Jorgensen and Mike Penders last summer, who they are said to have high hopes for.

Chelsea giving consideration to Maignan move

Chelsea have had real problems in goal and Sanchez was briefly dropped and replaced by Jorgensen for a handful of games, but the Spaniard is now the number one again.

Sanchez isn’t a popular figure amongst supporters and was booed after a costly mistake he made in the defeat against Manchester City earlier this season.

Djordje Petrovic is arguably Chelsea’s best goalkeeper and he’s currently excelling on loan at Strasbourg, but he’s expected to compete for the number one shirt next season.

It’s believed Chelsea don’t currently have any plans to sign a new keeper, but TEAMtalk have reported they are considering a summer move for Maignan.

The report states Chelsea have been scouting the France international for over a year and have been in regular contact with his entourage to see how open he would be to a switch to west London.

TEAMtalk add Aston Villa are also interested, and Milan could be forced to sell some of their best players if they miss out on the Champions League, with Maignan potentially available for half of the £67m he was valued at last summer if he doesn’t sign a new contract.

The 29-year-old is currently out of contract in 2026 and although he’s said to have been in talks over a new deal nothing has been finalised yet.

Maignan has been inconsistent this season, but has kept ten clean sheets for the Italian giants and at his best he’s a top goalkeeper.

The Frenchman is the calibre of keeper Chelsea require to take them to the next level, although at this stage it’s hard to see this move happening.
