Nicolo Bertola has reportedly refused to renew his contract at Spezia amid a genuine interest from Inter Milan.
According to Il Secolo XIX via FCInterNews, the 21-year-old has turned down Spezia’s last offer to extend his expiring deal.
Bertola’s contract at Stadio Alberto Picco runs out at the end of the season.
Despite being considered indispensable by head coach Luca D’Angelo, the Italian prodigy is keen on leaving the club.
That’s music to Inter’s ears.
Indeed, Beppe Marotta has identified Nicolo Bertola as a presentable market opportunity.
Always mindful of market prospects, Marotta hopes to lure the talented defender to Giuseppe Meazza on a Bosman deal.
Inter’s initial idea was to sign Bertola at the end of the season.
However, the reigning Scudetto holders could accelerate their interest in the coming weeks.
With Bologna and Torino in the mix, Inter must take concrete steps to avoid losing Bertola to fellow Serie A rivals.
Meanwhile, Spezia could be open to selling their wantaway starlet in January.
That way, they’d at least make some profit from the youngster’s imminent departure.
It would take up to €1.2 million to convince the Serie B outfit to sanction Bertola’s move this winter.
