After conceding a last gasp equaliser to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, it’s Liverpool at St James’ Park up next for Newcastle United on Wednesday.
In my humble opinion, the red scousers are already running away with the Premier League and won’t be stopped.
So is it a free hit for Newcastle in midweek?
Due to the fact that we have regressed from the team that qualified for the Champions League just over 18 months ago, it think it most certainly is.
Me and my dog Little Edd popped down to the Fat Ox in Whitley Bay on Sunday to see our mates. I wanted to have a drink and gauge the feeling after another sobering result on Saturday.
The lads to their credit were very pragmatic and most agreed that a draw was the least that Palace deserved.
I reiterated a point that I made in my ‘Instant fan reaction’ on The Mag after the game.
This was that I was confused when Eddie Howe brought on Harvey Barnes and pushed Anthony Gordon up top, after Isak was withdrawn injured after quarter of an hour.
We had Wilson and Osula on the bench and it is now obvious to me that Eddie Howe doesn’t think either is capable of coming on for 75 minutes.
Osula is one for the future but Wilson should be moved on in January. I hate to admit it but Alexander Isak is now also beginning to look somewhat injury prone.
There will no doubt be more disappointment coming soon but we are just going to have to keep chipping away. I don’t expect any relatively big signings in January.
Eddie Howe has been in the United hotseat for just over three years and there is no one else available at this moment in time capable of doing a better job.
With the Newcastle United owners, results won’t have gone down well in Riyadh, but I don’t see any knee-jerk reaction on Eddie Howe.
We also have a home quarter-final against Brentford in the Carabao Cup to look forward to.
All is certainly not lost and if we have a good December, we can head into the New Year in finer fettle than where we seem to be now.
