The title race is all done and dusted in the Scottish Premiership, as anything but a defeat against Dundee United would see Celtic equal Rangers’ 55 league titles on Sunday afternoon. They are marching towards a ‘domestic treble’ under Brendan Rodgers, and the hosts could only delay the celebrations until next weekend’s Old Firm clash by scripting a victory at Tannadice Park.

While the Tangerines aim for a third-place finish ahead of Hibernian, the Hoops have dominated this fixture, including successive Parkhead wins earlier this year. Celtic’s last trip to Tannadice finished in a stalemate in December; however, a result on the road would officially seal the silverware, thus fuelling speculations over Rangers’ guard of honour at Ibrox.

Defence

Celtic avenged their shocking defeat against bottom-placed St Johnstone by scripting a comprehensive 5-0 win at Hampden Park in the FA Cup semi-final. Viljami Sinisalo is enjoying his time between the sticks amid Kasper Schmeichel’s injury absence, and the young Finnish custodian would be hoping for another comfortable outing irrespective of United’s lethal attacking threat via in-form Sam Dalby.

Rodgers relies on Cameron Carter-Vickers in deep defence, but he has tried Liam Scales, Auston Trusty and even the outcast Maik Nawrocki to partner with the USMNT centre-half in the heart of the backline. Scales has recently regained his starting status over Trusty, and the gaffer must stick with the Irishman to maintain composure and stability. Wantaway Greg Taylor has replaced Jeffrey Schlupp down the left, but the right fullback role belongs to Alistair Johnston despite Anthony Ralston’s impact and influence in limited minutes.

Midfield

Skipper Callum McGregor is irreplaceable deep down the midfield, and the veteran skipper must dictate the tempo from the base as a ‘number six’. His vision and technicality would enable Reo Hatate and Arne Engels to make box-to-box movements, dominate the pockets and occupy the half-spaces in the middle of the park. Luke McCowan and Paulo Bernardo could also be involved at some stage as second-half substitutes.

Attack

Although the Bhoys are well-equipped across the frontline, the manager made adjustments since their dreadful 1-0 defeat in Perth. Daizen Maeda was shifted as a ‘number 9’ since Kyogo Furuhashi’s exit, but the Japanese hitman has been restored on the left to accommodate Adam Idah high up the pitch. James Forrest might keep his place down the right ahead of Nicolas Kuhn and the injured Hyun-Jun Yang. Having found the net at Hampden as a ‘super sub’, Jota could once again be introduced from the bench in a tactical alteration.
